Orange Sweet Pepper Ice Cream Wins the Taste of Holland 2011 |
|
Wednesday, 30 November 2011 07:31 |
Entrepreneur Annette Hermans of Hermans-Walter Growers from Sevenum and Master Ice Cream Maker Theo Clevers from Grubbenvorst are the winners of the Taste of Holland 2011. They produced a sweet orange pepper ice cream. These entrepreneurs received the acknowledgement from fellow professionals for the best tasting Dutch product, handed out by Mr Dick Veerman, initiator of foodlog.nl, in Baarn on 22 November. They also took the Public Prize from votes by the general public on the Taste of Holland 2011.
The orange sweet pepper has a sweet taste and contains a great deal of vitamins C. Annette Hermans and Theo Clevers developed a new product to promote orange sweet peppers in the form of an ice cream. Theo Clevers worked for a year refining the perfect balance until the ice cream could be launched on the market last summer.
The jury consisted of Culinary Reporters Jeroen Thijssen, Puck Kerkhoven and Dick Veerman. They chose the ice cream because it is exceptionally delicious and tastes creamy, without containing cream, and Dick Veerman was said to be surprised that it consisted of 60% sweet peppers. Orange sweet pepper ice cream shall also be presented at the Floriade next year and is available for purchase via the website from 6 December. The ice cream received, via an Internet, 1262 of the almost 5300 public’s votes given during the Taste of Holland 2011 competition. Those votes, combined with the votes given during the food Valley Expo in October, secured them the Public Prize.
The Taste of Holland acknowledgement has been extended for the fourth consecutive year. In 2010, Sita Danser won the Jury Prize with her Hottie Sambal, and Robbert de Jong of Looije Tomatoes from Maasdijk won the Public Prize for his bright red honey tomatoes. The Taste of Holland competition is an initiative from Syntens, the Taskforce Multifunctionele Landbouw and Foodlog.nl. Through this competition they want to bring the best tasting local products into the spotlight.

Newly Available – Wimpy’s Apple Flan! |
|
Wednesday, 14 September 2011 10:09 |
Thanks to the sweet toothed Bas and Joep Gommans (Traditional Bakers Gommans) and together with Wim and Annette Hermans, we have come up with a successful new flan - by putting Wimpy’s sweet pepper jam together with apples; all local produce from Sevenum (De Donck Farm). A surprising combination, above all it’s extremely succulent and very yummy! Quite rightly it’s the one-‘n’-only real “Whimpy’s Apple Flan.”
